2014 AACC Annual Meeting: Featured Resources

In addition to numerous presentations and abstracts at the upcoming 2014 AACC Annual Meeting and Clinical Lab Expo in Chicago, Mayo Medical Laboratories representatives will also be available at booth #3857 in the exhibit hall to discuss:

HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS (HPV)

To better accommodate important updates in the screening guidelines for HPV, an infection present in 20 million people in the United States and resulting in 6.2 million new infections per year, Mayo Medical Laboratories now offers testing for the detection of high-risk HPV (hrHPV), with genotyping for HPV-16 and HPV-18.

TICK-BORNE DISEASES

Historically, only certain pockets of the United States posed a risk for tick-borne disease. However, the geographic range of ticks has expanded and large areas of the population are now at risk. Because of this increased risk, it is important that physicians recognize who to test, when to test, and what test to use.

TRICHOMONIASIS

Trichomonas vaginalis is a protozoan pathogen. Infection with this organism is called trichomoniasis and it is the most common curable sexually transmitted infection (STI) in the United States, with more than 3.7 million individuals infected. Since the clinical presentation is nonspecific and infection may be confused with other STIs, yeast infections, and bacterial urinary tract infections, laboratory testing is required for accurate diagnosis.

CELIAC DISEASE

With the new testing options offered by Mayo Medical Laboratories, physicians can now utilize simple, algorithmic approaches to evaluate patients at risk for celiac disease and to monitor treatment, improving the lives of these patients.
