UPDATE: Clients in Northeast US May See Delays in Specimen Transit Due to Hurricane Sandy

UPDATE  (Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 3:00 p.m. CT):

All MML specimen transportation has returned to regular operations. Clients should expect no further delays.

 

UPDATE (Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 10:00 a.m. CT):

Mayo Medical Laboratories New England in Andover, Mass. did not receive any damage from hurricane Sandy and is now back to normal operations. All testing that arrived prior to the storm is either complete or in process. Due to flight cancellations and other transportation and logisitcs issues, client specimen transportation to Mayo Clinic testing laboratories in New England and Rochester has been disrupted. Mayo Medical Laboratories is in close communications with its couriers in the Northeast and client specimen pick up will begin as soon as it is safe for courier routes to begin. Finally, staffing adjustments have been made at Mayo Medical Laboratories to ensure arriving specimens can be delivered to the laboratories as soon as possible.

 

Original Post (Monday, Oct. 29 at 2:45 p.m. CT):

Hurricane Sandy will be causing disruptions to Mayo Medical Laboratories (MML) operations today and tomorrow.  So far, flights are cancelled from the following FedEx routes:

  • Baltimore (FedEx)
  • Philadelphia (FedEx)
  • Washington DC (FedEx)

In addition, the AirNet flights supporting  Boston, Long Island, New Jersey, and Voorhees are also cancelled.

As a result, MML will not be making courier pickups on the routes that ship to MML via air until flights resume (hopefully Tuesday evening). Our plan is to operate routes that drive into MML New England (MMLNE) as long as it is safe to run. MMLNE will ship Rochester work via Delta or AirNet as soon as flights resume.
