Matthew Binnicker, Ph.D., has been named the new Vice Chair of Supply Chain Management for the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP), effective November 15, 2015.
In this role, Dr. Binnicker will partner with Ray Frick, Administrator, DLMP Supply Chain, to provide planning, oversight, and guidance of supply chain management throughout DLMP at all sites. In addition, Dr. Binnicker and Mr. Frick will continue to facilitate driving down cost structure through efforts to standardize and improve operations, logistics, and inventory management through the Enterprise Supply Chain Leadership Team. With this appointment, Dr. Binnicker will serve as an ex officio member of the Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Specialty Council. Dr. Binnicker will also continue to serve as Chair of the Resource Management Subcommittee of the DLMP Clinical Practice Committee (CPC).
Dr. Binnicker joined the staff of Mayo Clinic in 2006 as a Consultant in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology, and he holds the academic rank of Associate Professor of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology. He currently serves as the Director of Clinical Virology and is the Program Director of the Ph.D. Fellowship Program within the Division of Clinical Microbiology. For the past few years, Dr. Binnicker has also served as Chair of the DLMP Facilities and Space Committee and Vice Chair of the Midwest Specialty Care CPC Space and Remodeling Subcommittee. As Dr. Binnicker expands his new role in Supply Chain Management, he will transition out of these other assignments.
Dr. Binnicker’s clinical interests focus on clinical microbiology with an emphasis on improved diagnostics for viral infections. His research involves the development of novel molecular detection methods for respiratory viruses, as well as improving the diagnosis of viral infections in immunocompromised hosts. As an expert in clinical microbiology and virology, Dr. Binnicker is an esteemed international presenter and visiting professor. He has published more than 80 peer-reviewed articles, book chapters, and abstracts. In 2014, he received the Young Investigator Award from the Pan American Society for Clinical Virology. He currently serves as Chair of the Professional Development Committee for the American Society for Microbiology.
Dr. Binnicker received his undergraduate degree in biology and life science from Graceland University and earned his doctorate in microbiology from the University of Iowa. He completed a postdoctoral fellowship in clinical microbiology at the Mayo School of Graduate Medical Education.
