1989: Mayo Clinic Scottsdale Dedicates Nature Trail #ThrowbackThursday

On March 28, 1989, a formal dedication of the nature trail at Mayo Scottsdale was held with a special ceremony in which Dr. Richard Hill, chairman of the Mayo Scottsdale Board of Governors, unveiled the new trail directory and stone pedestal.

A natural Yucca ribbon also was cut to commemorate the occasion. Mayo Scottsdale staff members were served “cactus cupcakes” in the cafeteria, and potted cactus arrangements were offered as prizes during the day.

The half-mile natural trail featured a variety of natural desert plants identified by metal signs. The trail included a Senita Organ Pipe Cactus, which had been donated by an appreciative patient.

Open to staff members and the public, the nature trail has become a favorite attraction for many patients.
