This month’s offering was originally recorded as part of our Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology Grand Rounds. In this presentation, Robert Foote, M.D., gives a history of proton beam therapy, explains its benefits, and discusses its use at Mayo Clinic.
At the completion of this activity, participants should be able to:
- Explain the physical advantage of proton beam therapy compared to X-ray therapy.
- Describe the relationship between radiation dose and tumor control, survival, and risk for complications.
- Identify the advantages of proton beam therapy in the treatment of a variety of cancers.
This program is appropriate for clinicians, pathologists, medical technologists, nurses, pharmacists, and other allied health staff.
