The Cost Management Team created a set of actions needed to understand and manage a number of sub-processes that are part of a larger “cost management system.” The Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology is part of the larger Mayo organization, and as such, must calculate internal test costs that use data and processes from both DLMP and Mayo Clinic. This presentation provides an overview of the steps taken within a DMAIC framework (define, measure, analyze, improve, and control ) to understand issues and identify targeted actions that will clarify these processes, resolve issues in the processes, and identify owners for any new processes.
After viewing this forum, participants should be able to:
- Review the project breakdown of identifying multiple sub-processes, debugging them, and assigning owners
- Describe various tools that Mayo Clinic uses to define and understand test costs
- Identify the DMAIC steps used
This series is appropriate for laboratory administrators and managers, quality assurance and control staff, supervisors, and other laboratory personnel who are dedicated to continuous quality and process improvement.
