“Creepy, Dreadful, Wonderful Parasites” Blog Voted “Top 50 Pathology Blogs and Websites for Pathologists”

Bobbi Pritt, M.D.

Kudos to Bobbi Pritt, M.D., whose "Creepy, Dreadful, Wonderful Parasites" blog was voted among the top 50 pathology blogs and websites for pathologists by Feedspot.

Dr. Pritt is Director of the Clinical Parasitology Laboratory and Co-Director of Vector-Borne Diseases Laboratory Services in Mayo Clinic's Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathology (DLMP). She also serves as Vice Chair of Education within DLMP.

The top 50 pathology blogs were determined from Feedspot's index using search and social metrics. Feedspot is a Modern RSS Reader that allows users to put all of their reading into one location online.

"It's an honor that microbiology is being recognized within pathology, as we are often overlooked in the pathology world," says Dr. Pritt.

Every week, Dr. Pritt posts a new case on her blog, along with the answer to the previous case. Dr. Pritt started her blog after she completed her fellowship at Mayo Clinic in clinical microbiology. She attended the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine to study parasitology for one year. During that year in England, Dr. Pritt saw some amazing cases, which she shared with her colleagues back at Mayo through her blog. Through word of mouth, people from all walks of life around the globe have become interested in Dr. Pritt’s “case of the week,” and her readership continues to grow.

"This award represents the important role social media has in education. I think that if I hadn’t been tweeting out my cases each week, my blog wouldn’t have reached the pathology audience that it currently does," says Dr. Pritt. "Personally, social media is one of the primary ways that I find out about the accomplishments of my colleagues and big advancements in my field. Expanding my reach in social media has also allowed me to build my reputation internationally, which is quite important for new consultants who are hoping for academic promotion."

Dr. Pritt also has the website ParasiteWonders.com, which hosts an archive of classic images from cases Dr. Pritt has posted going back to 2007.
