Hemoglobinopathy Testing Strategies [Webinar]

Originally presented January 17, 2018

Overview

Many diagnosticians consider hemoglobin disorders in the context of microcytosis or sickling syndromes. However, other symptoms associated with hemoglobinopathies may not be as well-known. Even if a hemoglobin disorder is considered, incomplete information can lead to a missed or delayed diagnosis and/or unnecessary testing. The diagnosis of hemoglobinopathies and thalassemias employs many platforms with complementary strengths and weaknesses, and interpretation can be complex. This webinar will discuss the strategy of hemoglobin testing profiles to address these issues. We will review the methods used and present cases to illustrate the utility of algorithms used at Mayo Clinic.
